This is a page map of the Silver Bullion category. Each entry represents a particular type of silver bullion. Silver bullion coins, bars, rounds, 90% silver coins or junk silver are the most common varieties.
A silver bullion coin is a coin made of .999 silver and produced by a country as a monetary coin. Silver has been used as a coinage metal since the times of the Greeks. The value of a silver coin is determined by its rarity, demand, condition and the number produced. Silver bullion coins are commonly used as a "hedge" against loss of value of paper or "fiat" currency.

Silver bars are rectangles of silver, almost always .999 pure, that come in 1, 5, 10, 100 and 1000 oz sizes. The 1 oz, 10 oz and 100 oz size are the most popular. These bars are stamped with their troy weight and percentage purity. Never buy a silver bar that is not stamped as described.
Silver rounds are usually Privately-minted (produced by private companies, not governments). They most commonly come in the 1 troy oz size value is based primarily on their silver content. The price includes a small premium for manufacturing and distribution costs. They are minted for investment purposes and usually have little or no collectibility or rarity value. They are usually minted of .999 Fine Silver and a hallmark stating their silver content and weight will help you get the best price when you decide to sell. Silver rounds are a great investment in pure silver and they are highly liquid. Silver rounds are not legal tender coins. The risks are price risk and storage risk.
90% silver coins (bags of coins or junk silver) are quarters, dimes and half-dollars minted prior to 1965, while the US Government was still using 90% silver for coin mintage. Silver dollars like Peace dollars or Morgan dollars are also made of 90% silver but are not typically included in the junk silver category.
