Silver Art Bars
This is a page map of the Silver Art Bars category. Each entry represents a particular mint or company that produced a collection of bars. The most prolific of mints, such as Hamilton, Madison and USSC produced as many as hundreds of different bars, usually of the more common variety, while mints such as Letcher, Liberty and CR Silver produced the least number of bars, as few as 2 or 3 types, and are usually of the rarer variety.
Silver art bars are silver bullion bars, and are almost always 1 troy ounce rectangles of .999 pure silver. There are also sterling silver bars, which have a purity of .925. There are very few of these but unlike other rare bars, these have no rarity value. Silver art bars contain a broad variety of artwork on them. Subject categories may include historical and famous persons and historic events, pictures of animals, holidays and special occasions, pictures of natural wonders and outdoor scenes, buildings and many others.
The value of these bars depends on the content weight and purity of the silver, the rarity and condition of the bar and the quality of the artwork. Most importantly, a bar's value is the amount of money a buyer is willing to pay. The lowest value bars are the most common or those that are tarnished, dirty or scratched. Values range from the market value of the silver content, $18.00 for a 1 oz bar to as much as $200.00 or more, at the time of this writing which is July, 2010. The rarest of the art bars were produced in quantities as few as 10 copies, while the most common have mintages as high as 10,000 to 15,000 or more.
